The Iloilo International Airport assured stranded passengers that the airport's regular operations will resume today after a power failure caused total blackout in the area from 5 p.m. yesterday and onwards.
Reports said the facility's UPS or uninterruptible power supply failed last night and was not restored despite the efforts of the airport personnel.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias confirmed the incident and said Civil Aviation Authority in the Philippines Area Manager and Iloilo Airport Manager Efren Nagrama reported that they cannot restore the power last night.
Banias said Nagrama assured him that they will fix the problem today and vowed to resume regular operations to avoid added inconvenience to the stranded passengers.
According to Banias, the CAAP immediately issued advisories to airline companies that incoming and outgoing flights to and from Iloilo from 5 p.m. onwards were cancelled.
Some passengers opted to go home and wait for further advisories.
The authorities are yet to establish the cause of the equipment's failure.*
