La Salle student found dead

BACOLOD CITY  –  A female student of University of St. La  Salle here  was  found dead  in  an  apparent suicide yesterday morning inside her rented room in 23rd Street-Gatuslao Extension, Barangay 1.

The victim, Ma.  Lourdes Cruz, 21, was a Psychology senior and a working student.

Cruz, who used a towel to hang herself, was found lifeless by her father when he arrived from work at past 9 a.m., police said.

Police Officer 2 Gegger Sebuan, desk officer of Police Station 2, said a call from concerned citizen alerted them about the incident.

When the investigators arrived, he said, Cruz’s body was already removed by her father from where he found her.

Investigation showed the young woman left three separate suicide notes for her father, friends and classmates, and relatives.

The suicide notes were written in the pages of a notebook.

To her father, Alex, the victim wrote that she was sorry for not having the courage to face life’s trials while she expressed her gratitude to her classmates, friends, and cousins.

As of press time, operatives of Police Station 2 were still conducting further investigation to determine if there was a foul play in the student’s death.

Ninfa Nuñeza, owner of the boarding house, said over Bombo Radyo Bacolod that she heard the victim coughing hard for several days before she was found dead.

Yesterday morning, she heard a loud cry from Cruz’s father, and after that, he went to hug her and told her that his daughter is already gone.

Nuñeza said Cruz and her father, who are from Bago City, have been staying at her place for two years.
