Instead of sharing, the netizens were urged to report the video of children allegedly in a drinking spree which has gone viral in Facebook in less than two months.
In a news release sent to The News Today, the National Youth Commission (NYC), together with other concerned agencies, called on the public to denounce the said video which already reached more than 22,000 shares and 12,000 comments as of this writing.
The NYC stressed that the video reinforce the call for stronger laws to prohibit underage drinking. It also calls for stronger penalties not only to sellers or store owners but to parents, guardians and supervising adults during the incident.
“We lament the indiscretion or lack of better judgment on the part of adults who were with the kids when the video was taken,” NYC chairman Leon Flores said, adding it will still confirm if those adults violated the Anti Child Abuse Act or the Child and Youth Welfare Code.
Now that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is looking into the case, Flores called on netizens to stop sharing the video to protect the identity and privacy of the children.
He said the public should instead report the incident to proper authorities to address the violations.*
