The list of negativities that hound our world today is long. But the list of solutions is short, and it can be summed up in one: take care of one another without expecting anything in return.
How many times have we shortchanged a jeepney driver of our supposed fare without thinking that he needs the P1 short more than we do? How many times have we failed to move a little bit in order to give way to people who have much weight to carry, or the senior citizens and the disabled in public transportation because we're quite comfortable with where we are sitting? How many times have we failed to give our employees what is due to them by law, making excuses and not thinking that we have more and they have less and a family to take care of? How many times have we looked down on criminals and vagabonds, not understanding that they are a product of society’s indifference and they are just waiting for people to initiate values formation programs in order for them to know that there is a better way of doing things?
People have needs - financial, emotional, spiritual and physical that need to be addressed. Such needs can be addressed by those who are equipped by God with better opportunities and resources like our public officials, the rich, famous and the educated.*
