Justice

E-mail Print PDF

As we busy ourselves in our work in order to survive, every Ilonggo is enjoined to be involved in the goings-on of the impeachment trial against Chief Justice Renato Corona.

The proceedings may be against one person but it is actually more than that. It is a symbolism that there is a need for us to fight for justice if we want our lives to be better.

Poverty is mostly caused by injustice. If we turn a blind eye on issues of corruption, then taxes that are supposed to go to basic services will continue going to the pockets of corrupt officials. But if corrupt officials are made to pay for their transgressions, others will think twice before engaging in a corrupt practice.

Without justice, traders will continue increasing the prices of goods. Without justice, oil companies will continue increasing the prices of fuel.

Ilonggos need to be aware of their rights. Listen to the impeachment proceedings and see our government at work and see how justice is being dealt with. Go the Department of Trade and Industry and get flyers on consumers’ rights. Go to the Department of Labor and Employment and learn about your rights as employees. Check the internet for published Philippine laws on marginalized sectors like the urban poor, persons with disabilities, minors, and more.

When you know your rights, you’ll have more choices and maybe, justice will be given a chance.
