Ninety-eight examinees from Western Visayas passed the 2013 Philippine Science High School national competitive examination held last Sept. 29, 2012, according to the Department of Science and Technology 6 (DOST 6). Eighteen of which are Diliman Campus passers.Â
The DOST said the exam is composed of Scientific Ability, Quantitative Ability, Abstract Reasoning, and Verbal Aptitude, aimed to determine academic skills of examinees in science and technology, and mathematics. Â
A total of 1,143 examinees passed the exam.
Qualifiers are entitled to free tuition, free loan of text books, and monthly stipend. However, those who belong to low socio-economic status get the same privileges plus a set of uniform and transportation fee.Â
The PSHS, established through the R.A 3661, is mandated to offer scholarships to talented and deserving students who have high regard in fields of science and mathematics. The said education system which gives emphasis on advanced science and mathematics courses, seeks to hone its scholars to pursue science and technology careers.Â
Currently, the institution has one main campus, and eleven regional campuses, including one in Western Visayas at Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City.*
