Police investigators are still facing a blank wall on the persons who defaced the streetlights at the Iloilo River Esplanade.
Chief Inspector Efren Lozada, chief of Mandurriao Police Station, said that they are now investigating the identities of the vandals.
“Basi na tripping-an lang nila. They might have sought for adventures but in a wrong way,” he said.
Lozada said that members of the Mandurriao police are patrolling the Esplande’s B. Aquino Avenue entrance while Molo policemen are roving in the entrance near the Iloilo Saviour Hospital.
“Maybe they were also monitoring us. When we left, that’s the time they attacked,” he said.
Lozada theorized that the suspects might have hooked the four streetlights with the aid of a pole.
They then smashed it on the ground.
It can be noted that after its inauguration last August, lights adorning the pavement were also destroyed by unknown persons.
This led the Iloilo City government to pluck the pavement lights, as they are prone to obliteration.
The 1.2-kilometer Iloilo River Esplanade, now considered as one of Iloilo City’s destinations, are swarmed by joggers and visitors alike.
Initially, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has deployed considerable number of personnel to intensify its police visibility.
The P70-million esplanade was expected to buoy the tourism in the city, as well as create environmental awareness among the city's residents.
It was gathered that esplanade's design was made by a renowned architect, Paulo Alcazaren, who is also responsible for developing the Singapore Quay.*
