Five members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) surrendered Tuesday afternoon, four years after they allegedly killed one and wounded two Janiuay policemen.
Jose Barranco alias Noknok, 57, of Brgy. Mangil, Janiuay; Cesar Tallador alias Kidlat, 27, also of Brgy. Mangil; Gorgonio Adorable alias Gonyong, 54, of Brgy, Madong, Janiuay; Frandy Acopio alias Dodoy,40, of Brgy. Patong-Patong, Janiuay; and Mark Ryan Aguaje, 23, also Brgy. Patong-Patong, yielded to Mayor Frankie Locsin.
The five, together with Bernardo Umayao alias Jack and Ricardo Lentija, were accused of the complex crime or murder with the use of unlicensed firearm with double frustrated murder.
But Umayao was earlier arrested in Antique province and is now detained at the Iloilo Provincial Integrated Jail in Pototan, Iloilo while the complainants filed an affidavit of desistance on Lentija after they reached an out-of-court settlement.
Senior Inspector Marius Amar, Janiuay police chief, hinted that the suspects might be released soon because of an amicable settlement between them and the family of the victims.
The cased stemmed after the Janiuay Police Station received a complaint that Umayao, alleged RPA-ABB team leader in Janiuay town, and his three companions mauled Jose Niel Palermo.
Umayao allegedly accused Palermo of circulating rumors that the group was responsible for damaging the windshield of an L-300 van in Brgy. Patong-Patong.
After receiving the complaints, PO3 Gildo Sullivan, PO3 Francisco Gabiano and PO1 Jonathan Limas responded.
A heated argument ensued between Sullivan and Barranco, with the former asking the RPA-ABB members not to put the law into their hands.
This allegedly irked Barranco, who was under the influence of liquor, so he and the other suspects shot at the policemen.
Sullivan died while Gabiano and Limas were wounded.*
