A tricycle driver died after he was shot by his own passengers, Wednesday evening along Brgy. Napnod, Leganes, Iloilo.
Alex Sumbilla, resident of Brgy. Gua-an, Leganes, fell from his tricycle. Blood was oozing from his body when residents found him.
According to his nephew, a lone man flagged down the victim at Brgy. Guinubatan around 9:00 p.m. but police investigators believed that another person, a cohort of the first passenger was picked up along the way.
“There could be two suspects because we recovered an empty shell from a super .38 pistol and a .45 caliber pistol,” said Senior Insp. Jo-Ivan Balberona, Leganes police chief.
“It was already late at night. It is possible that he picked the gunmen because he knew them,” Balberona said.
Witnesses claimed to have heard two gun shots. They just saw one man fleeing on foot.
Meanwhile, while robbery was considered, it was theorized that someone may have harboured a grudge against Sumbilla because of his work as manager of the town’s public market.
“I knew him personally and I have not received any reports that he had any enemy. He was a nice person,” Balberona said.*
