Periodic assessment to ensure building safety in Aklan pushed

KALIBO, Aklan – Amid the recent earthquakes experienced in the region, the Province of Aklan moved to ensure building safety through the constant monitoring and periodic assessments of structures here.

In a resolution, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, told building officials and municipal engineers here to strictly enforce the National Building Code to ensure structural safety.

The proper enforcement of the building code, according to the resolution, will ensure that all structures will be based on the general principles of engineering as mandated by law.

The move is to prevent or minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake in Aklan.

A month ago, Negros Oriental and Cebu were badly hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake causing loss of lives and property in the area.

The earthquake was also felt in Aklan, although of weaker magnitude.

Akeanons were called to be vigilant and cooperative in disaster preparedness measures to save lives and properties.*PIA
