ROXAS CITY, Capiz – About 80 percent of the registered voters in the 16 towns of Capiz already validated their voter's registration with the Commission on Election.
To reach more voters, Capiz Provincial Election Supervisor Wil Arceño said the election offices in Capiz are conducting barangay-based validation and registration of voters.
"This move aims to reach more people so that they will have the opportunity to exercise their right to suffrage in the coming 2013 elections," he said.
Arceño said Comelec offices are open even during Saturdays and holidays to accommodate the public.
He added there are priority lanes for pregnant women, persons with disability and senior citizens.
Arceño explained that validation of voters is a process wherein previously registered voters will have their biometrics taken, such as photo and thumbprints, using the electronic process.
He said the validation process helps eliminate the "flying" and would help Comelec come up with a "clean" Voters Master List after delisting those registered voters who are dead or have transferred.
Arceño said deadline of voter's registration is on October 31, 2012 while the deadline of filing of certificate of candidacy for the May 2013 elections is on October 1 to 5,2012.*PIA
