CATICLAN, Malay, Aklan -- A security guard detailed at the Caticlan Jetty Port, gateway to Boracay island, shot and seriously wounded a van dispatcher and injuring another driver with a stray bullet.
The guard, identified as Allan delos Santos, 34, of JVG Security and Protection Agency, shot 50-year-old Carlos Pamat, 5, a dispatcher of Westmint L-300 van at the height of altercation between the two yesterday morning at the port.
Delos Santos, who fired two shots using a 9mm pistol, hit the pavement with his first shot but the bullet accidentally hit John Abendano, a driver of Caticlan-Boracay Transport multi Purpose Cooperative.
Abendano was treated at the Malay District Hospital while Pamat who was seriously injured in the abdomen was brought to the Dr. rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo.
Police investigator said Delos Santos fled after the incident but later on surrendered to Caticlan Brgy. Captain Juliet Aron.
Reports said that before the shooting Delos Santos and Pamat engaged in a heated discussion over the tent of the Westmint van that should have been properly arranged at the port. Pamat reportedly refused to take the advice which irked delos Santos.
The two reportedly engaged in a scuffle wherein Delos Santos was beaten and eventually drew his firearm and shot Pamat.
A female dispatcher, known here as Tita Cesar, was also brought to the hospital after she collapsed during the incident.*
