JORDAN – The province of Guimaras will take advantage of its agri-fishery sector and other natural assets to boost the island’s tourism.
This was disclosed by Governor Felipe Hilan Nava after he underwent a week-long benchmarking study visit in Singapore together with selected local chief executives in the country handpicked by the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Nava said they were exposed to approaches and initiatives done by Singapore to become a progressive country.
Singapore while lacking natural resources, was able to create its own tourism attractions, he said.
He said while Guimaras could not follow the strategy infused by Singapore, they could, however, develop their own, banking on the rich resources of the island.
He added that together with other members of the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council, they are formulating a tourism circuit that would highlight the assets of each LGU in the group.
“We hope to produce the final (plan), and we are working on it double time,” he said.*PNA
