Fiery day: 3 fires hit Iloilo City Wednesday

Three fires, two structural and one vehicular, caused alarm in Iloilo City Wednesday.

Seven classrooms turned into ashes when a fire broke out yesterday afternoon at a primary school in Jaro district.

Reports said the fire started around 1:30 p.m. in one of the classrooms of Jaro II Elementary School in Cuartero, Jaro.

No one was reported injured in the almost three-hour fire.

Residents of the area said they heard a loud explosion from one of the classroom of the school building.

It is also believed that the fire started in the aerator of the aquarium in a Grade IV classroom.

Based on the initial investigation of the City Fire Department, among the seven classrooms that were razed by fire were three rooms were for the Grade IV, two for the Grade II and two for the Grade VI.

Imelda Cabrera, chairman of the Grade IV department JIIES, said all student records of the five sections of her department were burnt.

Cabrera said they were preparing the records to be passed to the City Schools Division Office.

Meanwhile, few hours after the school fire, another fire also ensued in Dungon B, Jaro.

One room in the third floor of an apartment, near a bus depot in Dungon B was caught by fire.

No one was reportedly injured in the incident.

On the same afternoon, a vehicular fire was also reported yesterday in front of Angelicum School in Tabuc Suba, Jaro.

FIRE PREVENTION TIPS

The following steps are advised to avoid fire; avoid electrical overloading, unplug all electrical appliances after every use, check all electrical installations regularly, check gas stoves and LPG tanks for leaks, keep children away from flammable liquids, lighters and matches, avoid smoking in bed, ensure you have a pre-fire plan at your residence or office, do not leave lighted mosquito coils unattended, always take extra precautions while cooking, never leave lighted candles unattended, and always maintain proper housekeeping to eliminate fire hazards.*
