Car hygiene: A smell-free ride

E-mail Print PDF

Keeping your car clean and smell-free is imperative.

Charged to experience, car odor can cause discomfort, dizziness, and nausea while driving.

In order to have a pleasant smell inside your car, an air freshener is a must. Install it onto an air vent and make sure the angle is no less than 60 degrees as the solution can be toxic if it gets in contact with the dash surface.

Twenty-four-year-old John Carlo Pinuela, driving a 2005 Isuzu Sportivo for four years now, advocates on car hygiene and cleanliness. "There are no rules in my car. Anyone can ride and use it just as long as cleanliness is observed," Carlo shares.

DIRT FREE INTERIOR

Carlo has his own techniques in keeping his car clean. He uses an all-purpose cleaner, rags, and a fabric conditioner. An all-purpose cleaner easily lifts away dust and dirt in the car.

Spray a fair amount of the cleaner onto a rag. Wipe the top surface of the dashboard. Work your way down to gauge cluster, air vents and compartment cover. Include the shift boot, knob, console, handbrake boot, lever, and seatbelt fasteners. Continue on the seats, door panels, ceiling liner and visors. When done, spray a fabric freshener evenly to each surface.

DOUBLE CHECK

John Carlo encourages checking the car before buying it. "Check the tire, oil, water, and break. And for those who has a sound system, always check the battery for the power."

As a car audio enthusiast, John Carlo stresses the importance of having a good car audio. "I always use my car when schooling and opt to a louder volume during shows and competitions only. The brands of amplifier I use are Sound Magus DSP Car Amplifier, DLS, and DynaQuest. For my front speakers are DLS X-Program and CIARE. My subwoofer is an RE by AudioTech."

Carlo advocates on observance of traffic rules and regulations. "You cannot get a license if you did not pass the LTO exam."

Moreover, he encourages everyone to park between the yellow lane or in an area that cannot cause hassle to other motorists.*
